Music Exams, Performances and Auditions in Liverpool.

Catherine Harrison can help you prepare for your music examinations, performances and auditions.

Music Exams

Many of my students prepare for music exams up to diploma level in piano, musical theatre and music theory with the London College of Music (LCM), and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). Other exam boards are available for pupils on request. Exams take place in Liverpool, Chester and North Wales – location chosen by you.

I encourage students to participate in public, school/college performances as well as shows that I put on my students. Singing is so important as you are learning to play piano The larynx is the instrument which we carry around with us, and using it deepens perception of music. I’m always delighted when instrumentalists join their local choir, sing and play at local open mic – there are lots around Liverpool – or form bands. The ability to sing is non-negotiable as you progress with music, and forms a vital part of aural tests in music exams/aptitude tests. Musical awareness through singing is an important part of lessons, especially after Grade II.

If you are trying for Music College, Drama School and/or performing arts courses at university, I can assist with audition prep. This includes choosing a suitable song, going through your monologues and personal statement. For long-standing students, I am more than happy to stand as a referee for the purposes of UCAS etc..
Professional performers who want to run through songs for potential jobs are always welcome.

Piano lessons: The king of instruments, the piano is at the heart of much of both classical and popular genres. We offer popular and classical style piano lessons, to diploma level. We place emphasis on notation and musical form.

Music theory: A sound understanding of theory will enhance any musician's credentials. All our classical piano and singing students are encouraged to study for and sit ABRSM Grade V Theory, once they are working towards intermediate practical exams. We offer intensive tuition for this exam, and for LCM Popular Music Theory (in which Grade VII is required for those applying to LIPA, for BAHons Music).
