Catherine Harrison

Instrumental Music

A highly qualified and experienced teacher of instrumental and academic music, I am a graduate of St Andrews, Liverpool and Open universities. I have been teaching instrumental music for many years, in the primary, secondary, FE and HE institutions. My music pupils have gone on to professional work in TV, radio and film, as well as top universities. Pupils range from beginners to advanced, children and adults.

I specialise in teaching piano to diploma level and Music Theory Grade V (ABRSM). From the start of learning, the uptake of notation, an understanding of the harmonic structure of music and the communication of musical ideas using voice is developed. Adult learners or returners are especially welcome. I have an interest in performance anxiety issues and have developed strategies for overcoming them.

John is a graduate of LCCM with a BMus, majoring in piano and vocal studies. He is an Associate of the London College of Music. As well as composing and teaching, John gigs solo and with cabaret/function band.
